Death & Resurrection
I read a story about this bloke named Lazarus. Interesting name, huh? So yeah, this guy died. And then came back to life. Wow. That doesn’t happen very often.
All the dead people I know stayed dead. They didn’t come back and keep going for another decade or two. Not exactly . . . No. When they died, they stayed dead. So what’s with this Lazarus story?
It’s in the Bible. The Bible claims to be true. It says that Jesus, the Son of God, told Lazarus to wake up – and he did. Scary. Paranormal. Outside my comfort zone, definitely.
But what if it’s true? What if God can really control death? I guess that would mean, in essence, that He can control life.
Death is the absence of life, right? So if God can take away death, that means He could give back life. Boggling. I’m not sure I understand. But then, maybe I’m not supposed to understand? Maybe I’m supposed to take it on faith.
Faith comes in handy with stuff like this. The things I don’t understand. God is my friend, so I have faith that He’ll work it out. Just like my husband is my friend, and I have faith that he’ll take care of me, and pay the bills on time, and come home every night from work.
The Bible calls this return of life ‘resurrection.’ Big word. But I guess it’s a big deal. To erase the absence of life. Now that would be an incredible thing to watch, don’t you think?
